Rotary donation for Kokoda project

St Patrick’s College was today delighted to receive a $1000 donation from the Rotary Club of Ballarat South to help fund an upcoming service project students and staff will complete in Papua New Guinea.

In the June-July school holidays, 16 students and three staff will embark upon a trip along the Kokoda Track.

A key component of the trip will see the touring party embark upon a construction project, whereby the members of the St Patrick’s College community will construct additional huts for teachers at a school along the track. The service project is being conducted under the auspices of the Kokoda Track Foundation.

Tour co-ordinator Mr Michael Weadon said the College was delighted that a community organisation such as the Rotary Club of Ballarat South was able to so actively support the community service work of students and staff.

“The boys and the staff are all looking forward to the challenge of not only walking the Kokoda Track but also working while there to construct huts at the teachers’ college,” Mr Weadon said.

“This funding from the Rotary Club of Ballarat South will help purchase the materials needed to complete the service project.”

Old Collegian and President of the Rotary Club of Ballarat South Allan McKinnon (SPC 1966-69) presented the cheque to the College this morning. Expedition student leaders Christopher Milroy and Sam Oostendorp received the donation on behalf of the College along with Headmaster Mr John Crowley and staff member Mr Jarrett Giampaolo.
