Senior School Report – July 16, 2015

Term 2 concluded with the Year 12 social held at the Ballarat Lodge. The evening provided a great forum for the boys to let their hair down and enjoy each others company prior to getting down and focusing on their studies in Term 3.

This term we have certainly hit the ground running and it was with a high level of anticipation that I caught up with many of the boys in the senior school on Monday morning.

Senior Careers Expo

A Careers Expo will be held on July 29, 2015 in the College Pavilion commencing at 5:30pm and concluding at 7-30pm. All students in the senior school are encouraged to attend.

Year 10

The Year 10 students are to be congratulated on the smooth transition they made adjusting to their new second semester timetable. If you have any queries or concerns regarding this please don’t hesitate to contact the College.

2016 Subject Selection

Year 10 also marks the end of the compulsory years of schooling. Thus it is time for each boy to start making decisions about where his future lies.

On Wednesday July 15 year ten students participated in a Information session aimed at giving them the information and guidance to initiate 2016 VCE subject selection. Hopefully this material made it home and is not sitting at the bottom of your son’s locker or school bag!

This will be backed up with a Parent Information evening which will be held on July 24, 2015. I strongly encourage all parents to note the date and attend. During the session staff will try to outline the VCE pathway options available at St Patrick’s College so that you can assist your son to make an informed decision.- Experience has shown that if we can get this stage of the subject selection process right the final two years are plain sailing. Accordingly the College will also provide parents and their son with the opportunity to make an appointment with a member of the Senior School to ask questions and seek further clarification on a one on one basis. Look out for the letter which will go out early next week regarding the scheduling of an appointment online. The relevant dates and times are as follows:

August 3:- 3.45pm to 5.00pm

August 5:- 3.45pm to 5.00pm

August 8:- 9.00am to 12 noon

August 14: 3.30pm to 5:00pm- – – (Boarding community only)

Year 11- –

Retreat

The Year 11 students will be attending a Retreat held at the College in the Old Collegian Pavilion on Friday 2th of July 2014 conducted by with David Kobhler. This retreat will address Manhood and Values Based Sexuality and explore masculine identity. The retreat also aims to help young men avoid proving manhood in toxic ways -“ sexual conquest, pornography, alcohol abuse and violence.

2016 Subject Selection

Last term all year 11 students participated in an information session aimed at giving them the information and guidance to initiate 2016 VCE subject selection.- Parents please carefully pursue the material distributed during this session and don’t hesitate to contact the College if you or have any queries or concerns regarding subject selection for 2015.
