2nd XI Soccer report – August 5, 2015
August 5, 2015
SPC Blue 4 d MCC 1
This was the last opportunity for SPC Blue to play together and for a number of Year 12 students the last opportunity to represent the College. As a result the players were committed to ensuring that they gave their best and finished the season positively.
A very wet and windy track made the conditions difficult and uncomfortable for all involved. Despite the weather SPC Blue started positively pushing the ball around the park maintaining possession and using the ball effectively. Paddy Collier and Edwin North provided the midfield with solid targets and their physical approach made it very difficult for the MCC defenders to manage them.
With great service from Kyle Schorback, Chris Milroy and Alex Baker, Paddy Collier was able to score a well-deserved hat trick in the first half. The backline of Evan Green, Liam O’Shea, James Parini and Sam Peters was able to hold the persistent and enthusiastic players from MCC from penetrating the eighteen yard box.
Sam Laidlaw was exceptional in goals showing great courage on many occasions by putting his body on the line. Conor McKee, Xavier Curran and Oliver Richardson all contributed well and were instrumental in setting up the play in their mid-field roles.
– In the final few minutes of the game Edwin North was awarded a free kick just outside the eighteen yard box. Edwin was able to capitalise on this situation by placing the ball in the top left hand corner with a superbly executed free kick. This was a great way to finish the season and I would like to thank all the players for the way in which they have represented the College and contributed to the team. It was a privilege to be involved in the Second XI Soccer programme and the boys should be proud of their efforts this year.
