Saint Mary MacKillop

On Friday we celebrated the life of one Australian who ran the race to the end, kept the faith and in doing so created a greater legacy for Australia -“ Friday was the feast day of Saint Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first officially recognised saint. Starting her race in the humble town of Penola in the South East of our state, Mary MacKillop’s journey to provide schools, orphanages and shelters for the poor, the young, the homeless and destitute, the aged and the infirm, and those suffering in our society, driven not by a quest for glory but by love of God and her fellow humans. And in its simplicity and focus, an example anyone can emulate, in small or large ways.

Co-Curricular Sport

Congratulations to the First XVIII on another successful season. The First XVIII’s historical 6^th Herald Sun Shield is something we can be very proud of as a College community. The First XV Rugby side and the First XI Soccer team had strong performances throughout the season with both making the grand final in their respective codes. Despite strong performances they were unable to match the quality and skill from their opponents St Kevin’s College and Clarendon College. As always the boys represented the College proud and no doubt will return stronger in 2016.

With the end of the season for many sports I would like to thank all the staff, parents and students who have been part of the programme for their involvement and commitment, be it as players, coaches, managers or generally as supporters. In our sometimes fragmented and disconnected world, being involved in the college on a physical, enjoyable, competitive and team sport based level is increasingly important to help produce well-rounded young men for the future; men who know the value of commitment, endurance, self-discipline,

pride and strong relationships with each other. Preparation for the summer season is already underway.

SIS PARENT SURVEY

A cross section of the parent community should have received a letter from Insight SRC on behalf of the Catholic Education Office Melbourne and St Patrick’s College to participate in a survey to help in identifying the strengths and areas of development for the College. The survey is conducted on-line and access to the website including login ID and a password are contained in the letter. The closing date for the survey has been extended until Friday 14 August so I would encourage parents to consider participating in the survey and help shape the ongoing improvement of the College.

FATHER SON / MOTHER SON EVENINGS -“ DATE CLAIMER

I draw parents to two very important nights that will be offered to Year 7’s and Year 10’s in the coming weeks. Bill Jennings from -‘Time & Space’ will help facilitate the inaugural Father Son and Mother Son evenings at the College. I have included information about both evenings and would encourage parents / mentors and students to attend these very special evenings.
