Celebrating the Unsung Heroes
July 28, 2016
St Patrick’s College has established a tremendous history of honouring its high flying footballers -“ the men who have soared above the pack and have reached greatness.
Now the College is introducing a new major event to honour the many men who have contributed to our great footy history but have largely flown under the radar. They are our Unsung Heroes.
On Saturday, August 13 the OCA Pavilion will play host to the inaugural Unsung Heroes dinner which will feature interviews with some of the great foot soldiers of the SPC 1st XVIII from 1955 through to 1985.
The interviews will be conducted by Coodabeens celebrity Ian Cover and live music will be supplied along with fine food and specially-branded Unsung Heroes wine donated by a generous Old Collegian.
The night will also feature a special dedication ceremony to ensure the legacy of the Unsung Heroes is etched permanently in a prominent place at the College for generations to come. Each year of SPC football has produced champions. Each year forged another Legend. Each year had its Unsung Heroes. Every St Patrick’s team has its unique ability to bond. It was this belief in our teammates which gave us an edge. The Unsung Heroes understood their place in the team. They knew they were not champions or legends, however they did contribute in their own unique and individual way. The Unsung Heroes, with their ability and skill to pass off, protect and show unselfish support in the heat of the contest, helped create that magnificent mindset of -doing it for the jumper-. Now we pay tribute to the Unsung Heroes. The honest brokers, dedicated to team ethos.
All-inclusive tickets for the event will cost just $65 per head, with $15 from each ticket sold being passed on the SPC Foundation to help fund scholarships for financially-stricken families.
Tickets for this incredibly exciting function can be purchased at- – www.trybooking.com/LPHO– or contact Rachel Bryant at rbryant@stpats.vic.edu.au or call 5322 4386. Should the event be successful, a future Unsung Heroes 1986-2016 would then be organised.
