Headmaster’s Message – August 10, 2016

August 9, 2016

Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends and Students of St Patrick’s College,

Last week, I was constantly reminded of what a special and vibrant place St Patrick’s College is!

The week commenced with the spectacular SPC in Concert at the Wendouree Performing Arts Centre. Featuring a showcase of the many and varied ensembles at St Patrick’s College, the evening demonstrated just how rich we are in musical talent across all year levels. Of particular note to me was the number of students willing to share their talents with the audience with great confidence and poise. The variety and depth of talent was very obvious. I had the pleasure of addressing the 300-plus gathering at the conclusion of the concert, providing the opportunity to acknowledge the great number of Year 12s who have been wonderful mentors for the younger students involved in our ensembles. For many parents, this is their final SPC in Concert and I am certain there were a few tears shed.

While on the topic of our Music Department, we wish all staff and students the very best as they headed off to Queensland on Wednesday for their tour. We look forward to hearing all about this exciting trip when you return safely on Sunday.

On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, our Year 9 and 10 Students attended the combined socials with Loreto College. I am particularly grateful to the staff who organised and supervised the event from both schools. I would also like to congratulate all of the attending students from St Patrick’s College and Loreto College for the way that they participated so enthusiastically and positively in the event.

Last week, the College announced its choice for the 2017 College Production – West Side Story. Written by Leonard Bernstein, West Side Story is one of the most celebrated pieces of musical theatre ever produced. Based on an adaption of Romeo and Juliet, this production promises to be one of the most anticipated events of the 2017 calendar. I would encourage all interested students to keep an eye out for audition details to be held later this year.

Finally, I would ask you to pray for all of those in our community who are finding things difficult at the moment. There are a number of parents and students suffering illness and hardship and we keep them in our prayers throughout this difficult time. We give constant thanks to God for all we enjoy and share at St Patrick’s College, and for those who make the time generously to ensure these things are possible. We give thanks for the wonderful Mass Father Francis Denton, an Old Boy of the College, shared with us on Friday. Such occasions, where we gather and are united in prayer, remind us of the importance of community to all we do and the central presence of Jesus in our lives and in our hearts.

Have a great week.

Mr John Crowley
