Mission Report – March 9, 2017

-Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.- (Matt 4)
We are in the Season of Lent in which we are invited to discover the true meaning and value of our lives. Last Sunday the Gospel reading was the famous -Temptation- story, where Jesus is offered the riches and glory of this world if only he will reject God’s love. However, right from the start of his public ministry, Jesus commits to living according to love of God and love of neighbour. This is our Lenten invitation.
At our whole-school Ash Wednesday liturgy, College Chaplain Fr Anthony offered us a powerful and contemporary image: he invited us all to install the Lenten APP.
A is for alms giving, where we respond to the dignity of others and seek to satisfy their needs. Through this we grow in love for our neighbour. Our Project Compassion campaign that comes to Pastoral Care Groups and is in the Canteen is a key opportunity this Lent. Students are invited to deny something for themselves and offer this money to others in need.
P is for prayer, where we spend time in the presence of God. Through this we grow in love for our God and come to know deeply that God loves us first.
P is for penance, where we examine our choices and actions according to the law of love. For where we have fallen short, we seek to restore our relationships through actions that witness our renewed commitment to love without limit. Through this we grow as witnesses to the love that is the source of all our gifts.
So take up the invitation and install the Lenten APP in your hearts. It is free and compatible with every situation and every detail of life.
