Senior School Report – August 31, 2017

August 30, 2017

This week I had the privilege of interviewing all but one of the Year 11 boys who accepted their nominations for College or House Captain for 2018.- It was a humbling experience.- All boys did themselves proud.- Many were exceptional and the decisions were difficult because the depth of talent was so great.- To those who will be given responsibility, I wish you well. To those who did not receive a position in this round, please hold your head up, your chances will undoubtedly arrive either at St Patricks or elsewhere.- You were all terrific.

Unit 3/4- Practice Exams, September/October Holidays

Please Note:

  • Exams all take place in the Pavilion, should be done by Year 12s and Year 11s with a Unit 3/4
  • Tuesday’s times are not the same as Wednesday or Thursday.
  • Write your exams into the appropriate places in the table below, noting that the various English subjects are the only ones with a prescribed timeslot, i.e. make your own timetable.
  • If you are unable to get an exam done in these available timeslots, make arrangements with your teacher/s to get exams done and to your teacher before October 5 so that they have a reasonable chance of being marked by your return to school.

Revision Lectures at Melbourne University (Parkville) for $5 per subject

This year our students have just been invited to attend revision lectures at Melbourne University at a cost of $5 per subject (+travel).- This clashes with our practice exams but we will find a way to accommodate students for the practice exams if they wish to take advantage of this generous offer.

The subjects offered this year are:

Monday 25 September: Biology, Physics

Tuesday 26 September: Methods, Further

Wednesday 27 September: Psychology, Chemistry

Thursday 28 September: English

(Students can only do one subject on any given day)

Each subject is $5.00 and will run over the course of a single day (9:00am to 4:00pm). Students will be given access to a range of helpful resources to assist with their preparation for the VCE exams, including a set of lecture notes, tutorial questions and solutions, and even a set of revision notes all prepared by our tutors.

The process by which students sign up and pay for this will be communicated via email to students and the morning notices.- This will most likely need to be finalised by Monday September 11.

Finally, I would like to encourage all of our cyclists to take care when travelling to and from school and to make sure you are wearing helmets.- It is an excellent idea to watch out for all traffic, even other cyclists.- The bitumen is very unforgiving and I believe the saying should be -the older they are, the harder they fall-.
