-‘Boarding Bulletin Board (Term 1)’
News around the Boarding Precinct
-
It has been a whirlwind first few weeks as we welcomed 64 boarding students into our brand new Boarding Precinct. It has been wonderful to see so many different friendships forming in our new state of the art facilities and the respect our Boarders have for their new accommodation.
-
Of those 64 students, 35 are new to St Patrick’s College Boarding. This has been both challenging and rewarding for our students and staff alike as we continue to develop a positive culture within SPC Boarding that provides the best possible Boarding experience for all.
-
It was with great pleasure that along with our many new boarders, we also welcomed two new staff members to the boarding team. Mr Ryan Bullock as Housemaster and Mr Jarryd Van Der Linde as our third GAP Tutor. Mr Bullock comes to us with a wealth of experience in Boarding from NSW and Jarryd comes to us from South Africa where he spent his years as a Boarder through High School.
-
The year is only just beginning, however we are delighted to extend our congratulations to the following boys who were presented with a Chris Nolan award at the recent Academic Assembly. Chris Nolan awards are presented to the students who finish in the top 15 per cent of their class for particular subjects.

We were also able to recognise the outstanding achievement of former SPC Boarder, Tom Millard (2014-2017) who was one of the College’s 2017’s academic successes.
-
On Saturday, February 10, twenty-three of our full-time boarders had an enjoyable evening at the Ballarat Rodeo. This was a new experience for many of our boarders and one we shall certainly do again judging by the level of fun that all had.
-
Current Year 12 Boarder, Regan Champley, and Year 11 Boarder, Connor Shugg, have been vital members of the College’s First Rowing Crew, recently winning the Schoolboys’ Div 1 event at the Nagambie Regatta and the Men’s U21 four at the recent Ballarat Regatta. We wish these boys and the rest of the SPC rowing crews, all the best as they conclude the rowing season over the next few weekends.
-
Many of our boarding students are in the midst of pre-season training sessions, vying for spots in the Greater Western Rebels squads, the SPC 1st XV Rugby team and various local football and cricket teams. We wish them all the best as they strive to pursue their sporting goals.

Up-Coming Events
-
On Sunday, February 18, we invite all of our boarding families to our -‘Welcome to Community’ Term (1) event. This night is one of celebration and fun, including a Mass, Dinner and a Smoking Ceremony. We are looking forward to seeing as many families and friends attend as we begin a new chapter of St Patrick’s College Boarding.
-
Wednesday, February 21 is the annual SPC Swimming Sports. All of our boarders from years 7 -9 and our year 12 cohort will be involved in activities all day, while the swimming participants in years 10 and 11 will attend for their events. This is a wonderful day of sportsmanship and colour, which we strongly encourage all of the boarders to participate in.
-
Sunday February 25 is the annual Head of the Lake rowing event, held here at Lake Wendouree. Along with Regan and Connor, year 12 student, Max Daunt will be participating throughout the day. We are looking forward to cheering on all of the boys from SPC.
-
The first EXEAT weekend for all of our boarders begins on Friday March 9 (5pm) until Monday March 12 (5pm). We encourage our families to start to think about their arrangements for the long weekend. It is a crucial -‘break’ in the term for our Boarders and Boarding staff, to have time away from the College and recharge ahead of the second half of the term.
Notes
-
We again remind all families to please ensure their sons clothing is named. Our Housekeeping Team have had difficulty in washing the clothes given the high volume that is unnamed. We are not able to guarantee its return if it is not named.
