Old Boys in the News – May 2018

Our Old Boys have been in the news, including:

  • Former boarder Nick Donghi (SPC 2014-16),- pictured above, who is playing in the Queensland Premier rugby competition with the Wests. By all reports, Nick is excelling in play and being touted for potential higher duties in the rugby world. Well done and good luck Nick!

  • While Josh Martin isn’t an Old Boy, we would like to congratulate him for his efforts to promote depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Josh is in line to receive a big honour for the work he does with Walk Off the War Within which is hosted annually by St Patrick’s College and was set up in honour of one of our Old Collegians Nathan Shanahan (SPC 1988-93).   • Great to see Matt Rosa (SPC 2004), a former North Ballarat Rebels player, back in Ballarat last weekend for the Gold Coast Suns clash with the Western Bulldogs at Mars Stadium in Ballarat. To read more, go to this link

  • Rokewood-Coringhap has so far refused to clear Caius Barrenger (SPC 2009-11, PY2014) to Buninyong in the Central Highlands Football League. The matter will now head to an AFL Victoria appeal. To read more, go to this link– and this link

  • Well done to Dominic Saunders (SPC 1987-92) whose business designs, manufactures, and supplies- software to enhance and speed up the diagnostic process for medical professionals in five different continents, with offices also based in Canada and Northern Ireland.- Read more in this story at this link

  • Well done to carpenter Tom Miles (SPC 2007-12) who is heading to Denmark after winning a prestigious national award, which offers opportunities to further skills overseas. Well done Tom. To read more, go to this link

  • We can’t wait to see what Paul McCuskey (SPC 1980-85) has in mind for the city’s St Andrews Church in Sturt Street after it was revealed Paul’s company The Macneil Group has entered into a conditional agreement with the Ballarat Central Uniting Church for the Presbyterian Kirk.   • Good on Skipton farmer Adam Meek (SPC 1999-2004) for his efforts in helping to organise a recent convoy of trucks to fire-affected communities in the south-west of the state to help farmers struggling to get back on their feet after the bushfires. The -Need For Feed- was aiming to transport 700-800 bales of hay via 30-40 trucks. To read more about this community effort, go to this link

  • Great to see College Legend and former AFL star Drew Petrie (SPC 1995-2000) will be back in Ballarat mid-year to make a one-off appearance in the Ballarat Football League, lining up for Ballarat against Redan on June 9. To read more, go to this link

  • Great to see Old Boy Sam Rowe (1993-98), who has recently opened The Hydrant Food Hall in Ballarat is supporting our Old Boys with Peter Hotchin (1993-97, PY1998) as chef, Sam Hannon (SPC 2004-08, PY2009) as apprentice chef and Mitchell Kennedy (2008-13)- working as a casual Barista. Leroy Hand (SPC 1993-98), who also designed their kitchen and has excellent hospitality background as a chef, is currently a trainer for one of their apprentices. Great work guys!   • Adelaide’s All-Australian midfielder Matt Crouch (SPC 2008-13) injured his hamstring in the team’s victory over Richmond in the grand final rematch. His brother and team-mate Brad was also sidelined at the time with a groin issue. For more, go to this link
