Mission Report – June 7, 2018

Schools are communities that rely on routine. We have timetables, bells and repeated cycles that let us know where we should be and what we should be doing. So we welcome the approaching holidays and the break from routine for our students. We celebrate that moment in the morning when they pause over breakfast to think, -What will I do today?-

Last Sunday we celebrated -The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ-, also known as Corpus Christi. This image sometimes can be a little difficult to engage with, but perhaps consider this approach. When we want to talk about someone who has given their all we often say something like -they have given their blood, sweat and tears-. – We are the mystery of body and soul united to create each unique individual in the image of our loving God. When we are fully committed to a cause we act with heart, hands, head and feet -“ it is a call for the entire self to be engaged. Jesus held nothing back in his mission to bring us to the love of God. As we know from the Gospel story this even meant physical suffering and death. This is what we continue to receive in the Most Holy Eucharist. Jesus continues to give us his entire self to help us with the challenges of life, so that we may turn even the most routine of task into a joy for the world. In those moments of challenge and suffering we can rely on the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist to be there in the middle of our trials. This is no mere theory or a nice thought. Catholics speak of the real presence because it is just that -“ Jesus really is there in the Eucharist. –

In the upcoming holiday, we pray with St Paul, that it will be a time to freely re-commit to the great and beautiful mystery that is our human life and the great gift that is the Eucharist, so that with family, friends and the infinite love of God, we will never feel alone in our daily routines.-

Out of his infinite glory, may God give you the power through his Spirit for your hidden self to grow strong, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love, you will with all the saints have strength to grasp the breadth and the length, the height and the depth; until, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond all knowledge, you are filled with the utter fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:16-19)
