A huge thanks to all of the Boarders who gave up their Saturday morning to assist at the community event, Walk Off the War Within. WOTWW is a Memorial Walk for ex-SPC student and firefighter, Nathan Shanahan and other Service Personnel who have unfortunately succumbed to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Participants were asked to walk between 2km and 20km with some carrying 20kg packs, symbolising the 400km awareness walk Nathan Shanahan completed from Mildura to Adelaide. Our Boarders volunteered on one of the drink stations, handing out water and supporting the walkers. It was an early start and a long day, however we could not be prouder of the Boarders of them all for supporting this cause.

The SPC Athletics Carnival was a wonderful day, which saw all of our Boarders competing through the program. Boarders featured heavily throughout the 100m sprint and it was great to have First, Second and Third claimed in Yr12 shotput by our Boarding students.
-
Our weekend activities program continued with 26 boarders fighting it out for glory at the Ten Pin Bowling centre. Some very interesting bowling styles were on display while others found a talent that they did not know they had.

A huge congratulations to Connor Shugg (12) who recently returned from the Rowing National Championships in Penrith. Qualifying for Nationals is a wonderful achievement and a great indication of the time and effort that Connor has put into this team and the SPC Rowing Program. Connor was also presented with the -‘Anthony Edwards Award’ for Senior Rowing at the SPC Rowing dinner held this week.
-
Congratulations to Isaac Wareham (12) who, along with the SPC First XI Cricket team, recently took out the BAS Two Day Cricket Grand Final with a comfortable win over Ballarat Grammar. This win ensured that SPC were the first team in BAS history, to claim both the T20 and Two Day Cricket Championships. What an amazing effort.

On Wednesday April 3, we farewelled 3 of our Boarders as they left on the 2019 Senior Football Tour to Ireland. The tour promises plenty of amazing opportunities and experiences for the Boarders, including playing international rules against Irish teams, visits to London, Waterford and some of Ireland’s famous cities. We wish all of the Boarders, along with the staff, safe travels and an enjoyable tour.

Kayne Councillor (12) represented himself, Boarding and the College exceptionally well at a recent community event at Ballarat Health Services. Kayne, along with a number of our Indigenous Boarders, spent time in their VCAL lessons, producing and painting Message Sticks, which were presented to 2018 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander babies recognising their entry in from the dreaming. This was accompanied with a traditional -‘Welcome to Country’ Smoking Ceremony and was a very special moment for all involved.

Our Boarders have certainly had a busy term and are looking forward to the break for the Term 1 holidays. Many of our Boarders will be spending time during their family holidays, working on family properties and catching up with friends. We wish everyone a restful and enjoyable break and are looking forward to welcoming all back for Term 2.
Note: At the start of Term 2 Aerosols will be banned throughout the Boarding Precinct. This is due to sensitivity of our Fire System as we have recently been informed that aerosols will set it off.
Note: If you require your son to leave the College early, for whatever reason, permission must first be sought from Mr.Silcock. Thank you for your cooperation.
