2019 SPC Tour of Ireland – Day 7 – Cork to Galway Cliffs of Moher and Galway
April 9, 2019
Following breakfast at the Imperial Hotel we reluctantly checked out of Cork and commenced a full day of sightseeing and bus travel. Our first stop being the picturesque village of Adare. Thatch cottages, manicured gardens and a group of singing nursery students made our visit unique. Whilst at the Heritage Centre many of the boys explored their Irish ancestry. Another pastime was researching the true meaning of their first names -“ some were more accurate than others! By the end of the visit we had formed the view that all the boys had some connection to the Erin Isle.
We travelled further along the windy roads of the west coast to the Cliffs of Moher. The low-lying clouds, coupled with the cries from the gulls all added to the atmosphere of this impressive landmark. Many of the boys commented that they felt like they were on a film set. Here the party had ample opportunity to climb the cliffs, visit the cultural centre and sample all that was on offer from the café. This was despite the wonderful packed lunch provided by the Imperial Hotel in Cork.
We then wove our way through the Burren into Galway. After checking into our hostel, the boys embraced the opportunity of walking through the alleys and walkways listening to the buskers for which Galway is famous. Naturally, some boys also found time to shop. Following dinner at the local hotel and a brisk walk the boys were ready for an early night.
Irish lesson of the day:
Ná¼ tá½g an fá½l.
Don’t climb the fence!
