SPC team makes State Chess Finals
Since 2016 the College’s Chess team has competed against a range of schools from our region in tournaments across the Ballarat Diocese. Training is held in the KRC during lunch times with up to forty students playing at a time. Many of the boys are vying for a place to represent the College in interschool tournaments. This year the coaches, Nathaniel Winfield and Jarrod Lynn and facilitator Monica Green have taken our team to a new level. In early September our senior chess team qualified to play in the State Finals.
While St Patrick’s College did not place, the boys played exceptionally well and proved to be tough opponents in this battle of minds. Congratulations to the boys for their fine efforts and a particular thanks to Mr. Nathaniel Winfield who assisted with strategy and tactics on the day.
