Welcoming back an Old Boy Tony Amad (SPC 1956-57)
October 30, 2019
We enjoyed a visit from Old Collegian Tony Amad (SPC 1956-57) and his daughter Judy on the first day of Term 4.
Anthony, better known as Tony, was a boarder at SPC in Form 2 and 3 and came from Carlton, along with his brother Johnny (SPC 1941-43).
He recalled seeing snow for the first time during his school days at St Patrick’s in Ballarat, and also remembers spending Christmas at SPC when he was unable to travel home.
Tony enjoyed walking the corridors of SPC with his youngest daughter Judy, proudly recalling the two SPC Handball Championship trophies he won at the handball courts, located where the OCA Pavilion now stands.
He remembered spending many enjoyable hours playing handball, and watching Headmaster Br Lynch, an expert handball player, and fellow Brothers also play the game.
While he didn’t play Football at St Patrick’s, Tony said he enjoyed watching SPC and coach Br O’Malley in competition and was keen to revisit the main football ground and grandstand.
After leaving SPC, Tony went into various businesses in Melbourne, including the taxi industry and a coffee shop. He married and has two sons and four daughters, and is now retired.
