Teaching and Learning Report
May 22, 2020
by Director of Teaching and Learning, Mrs Julia Petrov
Save the Date!
We now have some finite dates we can all work towards. Much planning has gone into preparing the staged return of our students.
Stage One return – Tuesday, May 26
Unit 1 & 3 VCE, VET and all VCAL face to face classes resume.
On days when a Year 10 student has a VCE, VET or VCAL class, he will come to school for the whole day. He will attend his VCE, VET or VCAL class face-to-face in his timetabled classroom.
For the rest of the day’s classes, he will be supervised at school while he receives these lessons remotely.
Stage Two return – Tuesday, June 9
All Years 7 – 10 face-to-face classes resume and our remote learning program will cease.
Term dates
Term 2 will end at 3.25 pm on Thursday, June 25. Friday, June 26 will be a student free day for staff.
Term 3 classes will start on Monday, July 13. Students will be expected in class on this day. The first day of Term 3 will no longer be a student free day.
Assessment dates
There will be no exam period at the end of this semester. We will use the additional time to teach coursework. Our reports will be adjusted to reflect this decision.
Assessment has been conducted while remote learning is in place with results published through PAM. Assessment done remotely does not need to be repeated.
Some assessment will also be conducted when face-to-face classes resume. This will be spaced over the remainder of the term and, where appropriate, into the first few weeks of Term 3.
In the first week the boys return, the teachers will use this time for reflection on remote learning experiences, interaction between students and re-establishment of routines.
VCAA exam dates
VCAA Unit 3/4 exams will run from November 9 until December 2. The date for the General Achievement Test has also now been confirmed as Wednesday, September 9, 2020. Specific information on the VCE exam timetable will be provided before the start of Term 3.
Preparation for Return
Uniform: All students must wear full winter uniform, including appropriate hair styles, when they return to class. Students will need to bring their PE uniform on days they have PE classes.
ICT: Please ensure the laptop or iPad is fully charged. The ICT Hub will be closed to students on Monday, May 25. From Tuesday, May 26 ordinary ICT services will resume for students on-site. Students still engaged in remote learning will need to make an appointment. From Tuesday June 9 ordinary ICT Helpdesk services will resume for all students.
Lockers: Students will need to bring all learning materials back to school as well as their lock for the locker.
Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time. We look forward to welcoming students back to our classrooms.
