KRC Update

The KRC hosted our first Staff Book Club this fortnight.  Two meetings were held after school on a Thursday afternoon with attendees enjoying a lovely afternoon tea prior to discussing the books they read.  Over fifteen staff participated in the reading of the following two books:  Stan Grant’s Talking to My Country and Jonas Jonasson’s The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden, with ten staff able to attend the afternoon.  Robust discussions were had as readers eagerly expressed their thoughts on the two texts.  The meetings were held in the KRC and it was a great opportunity for students during private study, to witness yet another aspect of reading for enjoyment – conversations and debate.

The support of teaching and learning is a major focus of the work within the KRC and a newly developed area of our resource provision is the creating of visual displays related to classroom learning.  These displays are created to support the students and staff as they explore a topic and make great classroom displays that remind students of topics being studied, relate to content of that topic and initiate discussions. I have included below and example of such a display – this was created to support a year 10 English unit of work.

In the blink of an eye Term 1 2021 is over and we can all hopefully enjoy a COVID free Easter break.  (Fingers are crossed because as I write this article, all states are trying to manage the continued flare ups – the current one in Queensland).  Both students and staff have navigated a busy Term 1.  We wish you all a Happy and Holy Easter and look forward to seeing everyone in Term 2.
