Faith in Action students deliver Easter cheer

One of the great annual traditions at St Patrick’s College is taking place today at Ballarat Health Services – Base Hospital.

Each year students involved in the Faith in Action group seek to collect as many Easter eggs and chocolates as possible from donations throughout the school.

They then dress as Easter bunnies before travelling to the hospital to deliver the eggs to people who may be forced to spend Easter in a hospital bed.

The cheer the boys spread is greatly welcomed by the staff and patients at the hospital.

In fact, a few weeks ago, a parent enrolling her son for Year 7 in 2022 explained to us how much of an impact such a gesture can make.

During the enrolment interview the parent was asked why she was choosing St Patrick’s College for her son.

The mother told the interviewing teacher that when she gave birth to her older son (some 13-14ish years ago), she spent a number of weeks in hospital over Easter.

“I was visited by the boys from St Patrick’s who came to deliver Easter eggs and some cheer to those who were in hospital and away from families,” the mother said.

“I was so impressed with the conduct, good humour and care from these boys (dressed as rabbits at the time!) that my husband and I decided on the spot that our sons would all attend the school.”

So, with that in mind, we thank all the students involved today and in all the years gone by at which we have spread some Easter cheer in the Ballarat community.
