Where are they now – Mitch Robertson (SPC 2007-12)

The College recently reconnected with Mitch Robertson (SPC 2007-12) who is loving his career in television advertising at Network 10 but apartment living during Melbourne’s mammoth lockdowns last year, not so much.

 

Where has life taken you since leaving SPC?

I stayed in Ballarat for four years upon completing Year 12 at SPC to go through university, where I studied a Bachelor of Management (Human Resource Management) and Commerce (Business Law). After finishing my degrees, I moved to Melbourne to begin my career in advertising at MCN, before moving to Network 10 in 2018 and that is where I am today. I’ve developed a keen interest in golf – unfortunately the interest I’ve developed hasn’t correlated into any ability in the sport whatsoever. I also part own a couple of horses and you’ll find me at the MCG most weekends during the winter to watch the Tiges.

 

How is the ongoing coronavirus pandemic affecting your work and industry?

With everyone spending a lot more time at home (unfortunately), TV advertising is one of the very few and very lucky industries that have been able to flourish throughout COVID. Apartment living has proven to be difficult with the many Melbourne lockdowns, however. Thank God for my partner and dog!

 

Do you have family ties with SPC?

Both of my younger brothers, Harrison and Fraser went to SPC but have both graduated. Harrison is a physio in Ballarat and Fraser is studying to be a teacher in Melbourne.

 

What are your fondest memories of your time at St Patrick’s College?

Without a shadow of doubt, it is the friendships that were made at school. I’m still close mates with many of the fellas from SPC and remain in contact with many more. I also look back fondly on all the sporting opportunities that were available to students and being a student leader in Year 12.

Which teacher from your time at SPC had the greatest impact on you? Why?

Too many good people to name and I would definitely forget a few. However, I will say that Howard Clark and the emphasis and importance he placed on mindfulness is something I still try and will continue to implement in my life today.

How has your education shaped your professional life?

How has your time at SPC shaped your personal values and your family life? Put simply, I think SPC taught me the importance of trying to be a good person. Life has many twists and many turns but if you are genuine in your approach to life, things tend to look after themselves.

If you could pass on one message to the students of today, what would it be?

It’s a bit cliche, but what you put into your time at SPC is what you will get out of it. Enjoy it while it lasts!
