Barry McGenniss (SPC 1945-52)

Barry McGenniss was member of Treacy House during his time at SPC.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Barry John McGenniss (SPC 1945-52, PY1953) on 30 November 2024.

Barry was a boarder at SPC, initially from Woodend, until his parents moved the family to the Melbourne suburb of Black Rock where they ran a hotel. Barry attended SPC with his brothers, Warren (SPC 1948-57, PY1958) (dec) and Irwin (SPC 1948-55, PY1957).

Barry McGenniss.

The McGenniss brothers were very active members of the SPC community. Barry was a member of Treacy House and enjoyed rowing. He was a member of the SPC sevenths crew, alongside crew members Brendan Davey, Peter Dalton, Kevin Shannon and cox Ian Priestly, which finished second behind another SPC crew in 1952.

We extend our sympathy to Barry’s family, including his wife Lyn, and children John, Anne, Jeni, Kerryn, Paul and Justin (dec) and their families. Barry was a treasured grandfather of 11, and great grandfather of two. His funeral was held at the Holy Eucharist Catholic Church in East Malvern on 16 December 2024, with several Old Collegians in attendance.

Barry completed his Leaving Certificate in 1952.
