Flanagan Art Prize

Celebrating established and emerging Australian artists at St Patrick’s College.

The Flanagan Art Exhibition was established in 2008 in honour of Noel Flanagan, an Old Collegian and former curator of the Australian War Memorial.

This prestigious event invited artists from across Australia to compete for a $5000 prize for the most outstanding artwork. Additional cash prizes were awarded for the Best Emerging Artist and the Best Affordable Artwork. As an acquisitive competition, the exhibition enabled the College to build an impressive collection of winning pieces, now permanently displayed in Kennedy House, the College’s administration building.

The exhibition’s primary goal was to enrich the cultural experience of our students, fostering a deeper appreciation for fine art, and strengthening the College’s commitment to the visual arts.

In 2019 the College shifted its approach, offering a $5000 Artist in Residence program, with highly acclaimed Melbourne-based artist Robert Lee Davis named the inaugural winner.

In 2025, the Flanagan Art Prize will return to its origins as a major exhibition at St Patrick’s College.
