Daryl Stephen George AM (SPC 1944-49)

Daryl Stephen George AM (SPC 1944-49) sadly passed away on February 16, 2021, aged 89 years, and was the adoring husband of Rosemary and father to Richard, Simon (dec), Sarah and a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather.

Daryl George was a committed member of the senior literary and debating executive at SPC.

A funeral was held for Daryl in Coffs Harbour on February 22. In heartfelt tributes, he was described as a “wonderful, devoted, loyal family man”. Daryl received the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) Medal on Australia Day, 1991, in recognition of service to industry.

Daryl was a boarder from Murrayville, South Australia. Daryl was an active committee member of the school’s literary and debating society and was a finalist in the Purton Oratory in 1949. His topic was “Greatness that came in vain”.

Daryl earned a certificate of proficiency from the Alliance Francaise de Victoria in matriculation in 1949. He also gained a scholastic prize earlier in his intermediate year. In his earlier years, Daryl was also involved in various school activities including the cadets, as a member of the SPC Platoon, as well as the St Vincent de Paul Society.
