Flanagan Art Prize shortlist announced

St Patrick’s College Ballarat is delighted by the overwhelming response to the return of the Flanagan Art Prize, which has attracted over 200 entries from established and emerging artists across Australia.

The exhibition, featuring 98 shortlisted works, will open to the public from 21-23 March, with the winners to be announced at the gala opening on Friday, 21 March.

The College is honoured to welcome Dr Vincent Alessi, Director of Linden New Art, as this year’s guest judge. Dr Alessi will select the winning works, including the $10,000 acquisitive Flanagan Art Prize, alongside several other prestigious awards.

Principal Steven O’Connor expressed his excitement at the response to the competition and encouraged the community to experience the exhibition firsthand.

“We are thrilled with the calibre of entries and the enthusiasm shown by artists from across the country,” Mr O’Connor said.

“The Flanagan Art Prize not only celebrates artistic excellence but also provides our students and the wider community with an opportunity to engage with exceptional contemporary art. We warmly invite everyone to visit the exhibition and experience the incredible talent on display.”

Art Prize Coordinator Wendy Sheridan praised the high standard of this year’s entries, highlighting the diversity and skill evident in the shortlisted works.

Shortlisted artists include award-winning emerging Palawa Indigenous artist Josh Deane, accomplished local ceramic artist Ruby Pilven, multi-media artist Lisa Anderson and Ballarat-born artist Kim Anderson.

“The quality of the submissions has been outstanding, making the judging process incredibly competitive,” she said.

“We have an exciting mix of mediums, styles, and themes represented, showcasing both established and emerging artistic voices. Visitors to the exhibition can expect a truly inspiring and thought-provoking collection of works.”

The Flanagan Art Prize exhibition will be open to the public at St Patrick’s College’s OCA Pavilion from 21-23 March. All exhibited works will be available for purchase, offering art enthusiasts a unique opportunity to acquire works from some of Australia’s most talented artists.
