The College reconnected recently with Old Collegian John Conroy (SPC 1978-82, PY1983) who has many fond memories of his time at SPC, especially involving our sports and cadet programs.
Where has life taken you since leaving SPC?
I started in banking at the age of 17 years and I was determined to give it a go and I worked in this career for 20 years. I also continued to enjoy football with the East Ballarat FC, middle distance running with the YCW Harriers and 11 years of lawn bowls with the Ballan Bowling Club.
Do you have family ties with SPC?
My cousin Jack Conroy (SPC 2015-2020) attended SPC.
What are your fondest memories of your time at St Patrick’s College?
Definitely sport. I was in the athletics squad and cross-country squad between 1980-82 and in the football program, but not the First XVIII. I was in cadets for a year in 1980 and it is a very good memory to this day.
Which teacher from your time at SPC had the greatest impact on you? Why?
Tony Frawley. As a physical education teacher and running coach, I was very sports minded and Tony knew a lot about sport. He was an all-round good teacher.
How has your time at SPC shaped your personal values and your family life?
Since leaving SPC in 1982, my Christian faith through my schooling, primary and at SPC, has shaped my personal values, with my family staying close to me and keeping in touch on a regular basis.
If you could pass on one message to the students of today, what would it be?
Enjoy your years at SPC with your school mates, making good memories with them into the future, as I did.
