John Joseph Bongiorno (SPC 1948-57)

John Bongiorno.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Old Collegian John Joseph Bongiorno (SPC 1948-57) who passed away on 29 November 2023.

John was the loved husband of Jo (dec) and father and father-in-law of John, Michele (dec), Jane, Elizabeth and Bruce, Caroline and Paul and grandfather to nine.

His funeral was held at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Toorak on 7 December.

John was a day student at St Patrick’s College, commencing school in third grade.

He was named dux of his first year in third year and continued to excel scholastically across his years at SPC, routinely receiving scholastic prizes throughout his years.

John was also involved in the football program, including the Seven Stone Seven XVIII and the First XVIII Football team.

John was a committee member of the Old Boys Association and left the school for a year to study at the Christian Brothers Juniorate at Box Hill before returning to SPC to complete his senior studies.

John went on to have a stellar business career and was known as a “man of great principle”.

 

John was a member of the First XVIII Football team in 1957.

 

John was also a member of the SPC Athletics team in 1957, when they were crowned BPS and ACCV champions of Victoria.
