2015 Valedictory Dinner
November 22, 2015
St Patrick’s College celebrated an incredible new milestone at its 2015 Valedictory Dinner when 11 Indigenous students successfully completed their VCE.
The College’s Indigenous Education Manager Mr Rick Balchin said the number eclipsed the 10 students who graduated in 2014 and was further proof of the remarkable success of the program which attracts students from across Australia.
The 11 Indigenous students in Year 12 in 2015 were Ezekiel Frank, Joshua Clarke, Bradley Bosworth, Yestin Eades, Daniel Rioli, Jaylen Marshall, Mickitja Rotumah-Onus, Cameron Tranter, Chris Saunders, Theo Hayden and Ethan Davies.
Once again the Annual Valedictory Dinner was held in the Br W.T. O’Malley Sports Centre and drew an audience of more than 600 people.
College leaders such as Headmaster John Crowley and Head of the Senior School Mrs Elizabeth Ryan took the opportunity to farewell and thank the departing Year 12 students for all their hard work, while Old Collegians Association Vice President Mr Chris Torpy used the occasion to formally welcome the next generation of Old Boys.
Student leaders including College Captain Kelsey Gannon, and his Vice Captains Jacob Hopper and James McKinnon also spoke with passion and emotion on the night.
Staff members Mr Howard Clark and Mrs Julia Petrov also praised the students for their fantastic year and wished them well for the future while parent Darren Gannon thanked College staff.
Another of the highlights of the evening was the musical performance by- the band comprised of Year 12 students Joel Wilmott (guitar vocals), Will Briggs (bass), James McKinnon (keyboard), Tom Elliott (drums) and Nick Anokye (guitar).
The next time these students will return to the College will be as Old Collegians, hopefully for their Class of 2015 barbecue which will be held in the OCA Pavilion from 6pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.
