Boarding Bulletin Board

by Director of Boarding, Mr Brendon Gilbert
Dear boarding families,
The College and boarding staff are immensely proud of our boarding students. They continue to amaze us with their achievements across various areas of the School. Their contribution to the school, boarding and co-curricular bring life into our communities, and for that, we are grateful to them. We look forward to celebrating these achievements at our House Presentation in Term 4.
Student Achievements
- Ed de Salis – Congratulations to Ed for being recognised as the First Team Hockey Captain at our recent assembly.
- Chan Bar – Chan played a crucial role in the recent BAS First XI Soccer Grand Final, scoring the winning goal in time-on to secure a 2 – 1 victory against Clarendon College.
On Tuesday, 6 September, the College Football presentation was held. It was a fantastic celebration of the School Football Program and the achievements of our players. The Boarding House was admirably represented on the evening, with many of our boarders recognised for their accomplishments. In the evening, the following boarders received awards:
- Mark Tedcastle – Year 7 Ryan Best and Fairest
- Lincoln Koliba – Intermediate Green Best and Fairest
- Strahan Robinson – SPC White: 2nd XVIII Best and Fairest
Although Jack James did not receive an award at the presentation, he made a heartwarming speech about his grandfather, John James. John was a Brownlow medallist for Carlton, and the First XVIII, Best and Fairest award, is named in his honour. He would have made his grandfather very proud.
Furthermore, the Ballarat Football League Junior presentation was recently held where several of our boarders were recognised for their achievements:
- Lincoln Koliba – U/15 leading goal kicker
- Strahan Robinson – U/17 leading goal kicker
- Khy Jess – U/17 MVP, as awarded by the opposition coaches.
This weekend marks the end of the 2022 Ballarat Football League junior season for many of our boarders. We wish those boys playing for Redan and East Point U/17, East Point U17 Reserves, Lake Wendouree U15, and Storm U/13 all the best in their attempt at Grand Final glory.
2023 Boarding House Leaders
Congratulations to Ngor Bar, Hugo Delaney and Paddy Hannaford on being selected as House Captains and Vice Captains, respectively. We look forward to seeing all the excellent work these young men will do for the boarding community in their roles. In addition, we would like to thank our current House Captain and Vice Captains, Toby, Brayden and Ed, respectively. These three boys have shown exceptional leadership this year, continually adding value to our boarding and school community. These boys, along with our other Year 12s, have played a critical role in enhancing the culture and experience of the boarding house.
Boarders Basketball
The boarders played a hard-fought match against Phoenix in the Grand Final, going down 32 to 40. The boarders got off to a fast start, scoring the first seven points and headed into halftime, leading 17 to 15. Phoenix scored quickly at the beginning of the second half to take the lead before both teams got into a shot-out. Phoenix got on top in the last two minutes with some fast scoring. Jack James and Luke Smith led the way on the scoreboard with 13 and 10 points, respectively. I want to thank the senior students for their leadership in organising the team and giving the players something to look forward to each Thursday evening.
Boarding House Presentation
The Boarding House presentation will take place on Saturday, October 15. We will commence with Mass at 5:30 pm in the College Chapel and proceed to the Pavilion for the presentations. This event will be an opportunity to farewell our Year 12 boarders and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our young people.
End of Term
The school term finishes today Friday, September 9, at 3:25 pm, and the boarding house will close at 5:00 pm and reopen on Sunday, October 2, at 4:00 pm. We wish the VCE Unit 4 boarders all the best during their trial exams over the holidays as they prepare for their upcoming VCE Exams. Furthermore, we hope our boarding community has a joyous holiday break with loved ones.
