2018 National Boarding Week -“ what a celebration it was!!
The festivities started with the Australian Boarding Schools Association State Symposium, which was held at Caulfield Grammar School, Melbourne. Boarding staff, along with year 11 students, Josh Wilson-Stanton and Cooper Atchison, represented St Patrick’s College at the event, learning and sharing ideas throughout the day. The event concluded with a -Look Inside- Caulfield Grammar’s Boarding accommodation, which was an interesting way to see how other boarding schools run.
-
National Boarding Week continued with our very own -open house- on Wednesday afternoon, an opportunity for our College staff to see our Boarding Precinct -‘live’ and coincided with an invitation to our Year 12 Student Council to join us for their very own Boarding experience. It was a wonderful occasion for all involved, especially the sharing of our lives with our College’s student leaders, who, for a night, walked in the very different shoes of our Boarders.

We concluded National Boarding Week with our annual Winter Woollies Drive and 1km walk with fellow boarding schools, Ballarat Grammar and Ballarat Clarendon College on Friday, May 18. The 1km walk was one of the key initiatives of ABSA during National Boarding Week -“ the Australia-wide Boarders Run Australia. Each Boarder donated a gold coin to charity and celebrated the fact there are about 230,000 boarders in Australia. In theory, if each Boarder across Australia walked 1km they would have walked the full circumference of Australia. This annual event creates awareness as well as that being in boarding school is not a case of living in a bubble, but being part of a community and contributing to causes and supporting people less fortunate than themselves.

Our Yr9 Boarding students enjoyed a special trip to the movies on Sunday with staff member Ryan McDougall. It was a wonderful opportunity for the group to spend some time together outside of the Boarding Precinct and they all enjoyed the break from their normal routine.
-
The Yr7 Boarding students enjoyed another fun filled evening recently with the Silcock family, watching a movie and sharing plenty of laughs.

On Wednesday May 23, all of the Boarders were given the privilege to attend the opening night of -‘Beauty and the Beast’ -“ a collaboration between St Patrick’s College and Loreto College. Congratulations to everyone involved, especially the performers and those that worked tirelessly behind the scenes -“ it was a sensational night and one that the Boarders thoroughly enjoyed.
-
Congratulations to the SPC Rugby teams and all of the Boarders participating across the various year levels in these teams. It has been an exceptional start to the Rugby season and we are very proud of how our Boarders are representing themselves, the College and their families, on and off the field -“ and taking the opportunity to give back to the College in another field. Keep up the great work!!
-
Well done to the following Boarders who were selected to represent the Ballarat Football League in recent Interleague matches;
Ethan McMasters
Myles King
Mick Derrick
Liam O’Brien
Austin Reinehr

On Sunday May 27, we are looking forward to welcoming over 100 friends and family to our term 2 Family Dinner and Mass, coinciding with Reconciliation Week. The St Patrick’s College Boarding Community recognise all our Indigenous folk and those in the broader community with our annual Reconciliation Week Mass and Dinner. It always proves to be an evening of celebration -“ celebrating the cultural diversity in our community -“ and an opportunity to be thankful -“ for the many enriched young men who make St Patrick’s College the wonderful inclusive community it is.
