-‘Boarding Bulletin Board (T3)’

News around the Boarding Precinct

  • Term 3 is drawing to a close and we are extremely proud of all that our Boarders are achieving, both within and outside of the classroom, in all their personal pursuits.

  • Mr Silcock gave our Year 10 cohort an enterprise challenge at the beginning of this term to test their thinking, creativity and entrepreneurial skills. The challenge consisted of our Yr10s being put into groups of two, planning and executing an idea, which would result in a profit being made. Ideas have ranged from selling confectionary and soft drinks, providing an -Uber- type food delivery service and even unique and personal artworks being auctioned off to the broader College community. All profits will be forwarded to local charities in and around Ballarat. We have been very proud of the initiative shown throughout this challenge and we look forward to announcing the winner in the coming weeks.

  • On Thursday, one of our Senior GAP Tutors, Macky Steyn, along with two of our year 10 boarders, Alex Byham and Layton Priest attended a -Look Inside- event at Scotch College in Melbourne. This gave an insight into how another boarding school operates, as well as sharing information and developing friendships across Victorian boarding schools between both staff and students.

  • Interviews are being conducted this week for our 2019 Captain of Boarding. We have had a number of fantastic applicants apply from our current year 11 cohort and we wish the aspirants well for their interviews. An announcement will be made regarding the successful applicant prior to the Leadership Assembly on the 18th September.

  • Throughout this term, the Boarders have had the opportunity to participate in several different weekend activities in and around Ballarat. These have included Rugby finals, AFL matches and basketball games. More recently, the Boarders had a wonderful night at Xtreme Bounce, exhausting themselves out on the trampolines, the foam bits and battle stations. This weekend the boarders are off to Lake Dewar for a spot of fishing, which everyone is looking forward to who will land the biggest catch! (or actually catch something, Mr Silcock??)

  • Congratulations to those many Boarders who are still competing in local Ballarat Football League finals. It is fantastic to see the commitment and dedication that the boarders have shown to these clubs and we look forward to watching a number of our boarders run out on Grand Final Day.

  • The 2018 Rugby Presentation was held on Thursday night at the College Pavilion. So many of our Boarders participated throughout the Rugby season and it was a wonderful opportunity to see these Boarders recognised on the night. Award winners will be announced in the next Boarding Bulletin.

  • We wish Mr Silcock, Daniel Briggs and Jay Ketrak all the best as they leave for the Northern Territory this coming Monday to visit many of the communities that our Indigenous Boarders come from. Mr Silcock will talk more to this in our next Boarding Bulletin.

  • Please can our Yr12 Boarders’ Parents take note of Mr Silcock’s email this week ahead of the VCE trial examinations over the forthcoming holiday and let us know if your son is intending on returning to Boarding to sit their trial exams at the College.

  • In Term (4) we shall be excited to host the official opening of the Boarding Precinct. This is likely to be combined with our Yr12 Farewell Mass and Dinner on Sunday, 21st October, however confirmation and further information will follow in the coming weeks. Please keep this date free for what will be a wonderful occasion for our Yr12s and all in our College community.
