Our first game for the new season was against the St Patrick’s College Year 7 team. The game proved to be close and competitive. We were able to score the first three goals before giving away an unfortunate own goal late in the first half. Two goals early in the second half provided us with a comfortable lead, however the Year 7 team were able to score again late in the second half. Congratulations to all the boys on their excellent first game and win.

SPC 3 defeated BCC 0
On the afternoon of Wednesday 22 April thirteen eager Year 9 soccer players boarded the bus for Moreshead Park for their first round match BAS Intermediate against Ballarat Clarendon College. Due to a late start the match kicked-off with a sense of urgency, and after a few attacking drives from the opposition SPC quickly found their feet and dominated the match from thereon in. Jude Jeandet showed great leadership in managing a solid and confident back line, which worked beautifully with the midfield, who all covered their ground very well, harried most BCC pushes thoroughly and made created continuous opportunities for our forwards and wingers. Midfielders Ryan Andrew and Liam Wakefield worked tirelessly with strikers Mitch Butterworth and Duncan Lannen to produce countless attempts at goal from all directions, with Andrew and Butterworth scoring in the 10th and 17th minutes respectively and Wakefield 5 minutes into the second half. Overall it was a great start to the season and the boys can look forward to some tougher challenges ahead.-
Best on ground: Liam Wakefield, Jude Jeandet and Ryan Andrew

A squad of 16 Year 9 soccer players took advantage of crisp, sunny conditions on the Shed Oval to take-on the visiting Ballarat Grammar Intermediate squad on Wednesday, April 29.- St Pat’s were initially taken by some shock tactics applied by Grammar, with several fast and determined attempts at goal that gave the defence a few scares. It took some time for St Pat’s to find composure. The team finally lifted in confidence after right winger Liam Wakefield struck a perfect goal from outside the box, which was followed by more consistent attacking and overall balance to the game, albeit at times a mutual- competition of- messy passing and trial and error. Some of Grammar’s very fast forwards still threatened our defence, which- needed to be and became- more sure of their responsibilities- in the second half, conceded two goals in rather quick succession. These were answered twice by Mitch Butterwork, who with the help of some real fight put up by the midfield, slotted one goal past Grammar’s keeper then broke the draw by heading another goal over him.
Best on Field: Liam Wakefield, Mitchell Butterworth, Jude Jeandet.
