Excitement as boarding precinct build begins
February 14, 2017
Construction on the exciting new boarding precinct has officially commenced! The first steps in what will be a 12-month build have been taken. This historic project will cost more than $7m and will secure the future of boarding at St Patrick’s College for generations to come.
Building works have started in earnest in the north-west corner of the College, with safety fences erected around the building site, fronting Alfred Street.
The successful builders, Resicare, are now on site and preparing the ground for the pouring of the slab over the next few weeks. Stage 1 of the project will be built throughout 2017 and will include a three-storey accommodation wing, together with a link to McCunnie House. Stage 2, to be completed throughout the first six months of 2018, will see the construction of the dining and kitchen areas. It is a very special time to be boarding at St Patrick’s and this new facility will see us providing state-of-the-art accommodation to all students in our boarding community.
The new, custom-built facility will house up to 100 students – from Year 7 students through to Year 12. In exciting steps forward, it will be the first time in decades that boys will be able to board at SPC from Year 7.
The boarding redevelopment is the most significant capital investment in boarding in the College’s 125-year history. A fundraising appeal to help fund the significant project stands at nearly $340,000 – one third of the way to its target of $1m.
Donations above $2 are tax deductible and the College would be grateful for your support, big or small. All donations will be recognised or can be made anonymously if preferred.- To make a donation, please click on this link: https://www.stpats.vic.edu.au/en/boarding/boarding-redevelopment/
In the meantime, we look forward to keeping you updated on the new boarding precinct’s construction.
