Junior School Report

March 4, 2021

By Mr Gavin Webb, Director of the Junior School

Six weeks of school have now been completed and we have witnessed many examples of growth, learning, transition, empathy, fun and friendship. Your son has now had a chance to meet all of his teachers, adjust to a new group of classmates, get involved in extra-curricular activities, understand the expectations in and out of the classroom and just generally get a feel for how Year 7 and 8 operates.

On the whole the year has started in a very positive manner with the majority of students meeting expectations the majority of the time. For the small number who have digressed they have been held accountable. It is crucial that the learnings from these “moments” are not lost. Each error in judgement is an opportunity to learn and as educators of young men we realise mistakes will be made and we understand there will be disagreements amongst the boys from time to time. Any communication made with home has been honest and direct and staff members have appreciated any phone call or email you, as parents/guardians, have initiated with us. Our core business is teaching and learning, in conjunction with looking after the wellbeing of your son. Each boy has the right to learn uninterrupted and the right to feel safe every day at SPC.

Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews

We look forward to discussing your son’s progress at Tuesday’s interviews (4:00pm – 8:30pm) in the Wilding Wing. Please ensure you have booked a time. If you are unable to make it on the night, please do not hesitate to contact staff via phone or email. We truly value the opportunity to meet face to face and to establish or continue to build relationships between school and home.

Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to all Year 7 and 8 students for the way they competed and participated in the SPC swimming carnival last Wednesday. On a cool but clear day there was plenty of excitement and enthusiasm, be it with the competitive events in the 50m pool, novelty events in the small pool or the other activities such as the water park and basketball courts. For a more detailed report of the carnival please refer to Ms Tina Benoit’s Sport report.
