The KRC and Remote Learning Take 2:
We continue to provide “all things resources” during the second round of the COVID-19 remote learning. Boys in Years 7-9 were fortunate to have the opportunity to borrow fiction titles during their WIRED sessions before leaving for remote learning. We have created digital reading logs for a quick way to keep English Teachers informed of their students’ home reading habits. Boys can easily access the link from their English TEAMS platform. Our e-book platform is available for boys to borrow a book to read in digital format. https://spc.wheelers.co/
To further support the reading enjoyment and development for students at St Patrick’s College we are pleased to announce that we will be offering a “Click and Collect” borrowing system during remote learning. Boys will be able to log on to the library catalogue, browse the collection, select a book, place it on reserve and collect it the next day from the Front Reception Foyer at St Patrick’s College. Boys will have one week to pick up their book otherwise it will be returned to the collection. Due dates are extended until school returns to onsite learning. Items will be placed in bags and clearly labelled with the student’s name and year level. A “how to” sheet explaining the process can be located via this link: https://krc.stpats.vic.edu.au/student-support-for-remote-learning.html
Several classes have enthusiastically taken up our Reading Challenge and are endeavouring to be awarded points that will put them in the running for Individual Best in Class Reader and Best Reading Class Per Year Level recognition. These points will also be reviewed with the intent of using boy’s reading engagement to gain points for their “House”. Library staff are also looking forward to hosting a Pizza Lunch for the winning class per year level. Boys are expected to be able to engage with their teacher and classmates during their online WIRED sessions, as they discuss books they have read. These peer reviews will also form a great platform for recommended reads.
Other KRC resources are available to students that support their learning and are available through our online portal via the following link: https://krc.stpats.vic.edu.au/ . This site is regularly reviewed with current content added to support learning tasks for all year levels 7 – 12. Students are encouraged to use a variety of these curated resources prior to moving to open searches on the web. It houses links to:
