Middle School Report

April 23, 2020

Welcome back to all of the Middle School families in this very different Term Two situation. I hope that everyone was able to enjoy the Easter break and are now well and truly back into the swing of things in regards to our Remote and Flexible Learning mode of classroom delivery. As always we are looking towards another very positive term of school, despite this change in conditions.

We had a magnificent turn out for the Middle School Parent, Student Teacher interviews last term. This gave everyone an opportunity to see how their son was travelling, ask teachers any questions concerning both class and homework requirements being met and receive very important feedback as we continue to establish closer associations as a support network for your sons’ education.

Unfortunately the planned Parent Information Meeting for this term to outline the Melbourne Experience, has had to be cancelled at this point in time. If we are able to return to school in Term 3 an email will be sent inviting you to a new meeting date as I am looking to move the dates for our Melbourne Experience to possibly the last week in Term 3. This is so that the boys don’t see 2020 as being the year they lost everything! I well speak more about this as information comes to light.
The Melbourne Experience is designed to promote important life skills, such as independence, initiative and responsibility, and provide a real world link to the Year 9 Curriculum.
The Melbourne Experience Objectives include:
·       Learn about different aspects of Melbourne
·       History, Culture, Arts, Sport, Design and Innovation
·       Learn how to use public transport
·       How to navigate around the Melbourne CBD
·       Develop teamwork and independence skills
·       Experience a range of activities across the CBD:

I appreciate that this is a very challenging time for all in the Middle School and your cooperation with our Remote and Flexible Learning program is very much appreciated.
Middle School staff will be available throughout the normal school day and you are asked to make contact directly with your son’s teacher if there are any concerns about your son’s wellbeing or learning program. If you do need help or additional support, please contact our Year Level Coordinators Mr Shane Hayes, Mr Sam Cue or myself.
During this difficult time, we must all take care to support one another.
