Middle School Report – June 8, 2017

I would like to thank Mrs Ashleigh Giampaolo for all of her work over the last 18 months as Year 9 Coordinator. Ashleigh has made a significant contribution to the Year 9 Team in her role as Year Level Coordinator being responsible for organizing a range of camps, Middle school functions and supporting each of the boys as they journey through the Middle School. Ashleigh leaves us at the end of this week to begin her Maternity Leave. I would like to wish both Ashleigh and Jarrett all the best as life undergoes the myriad of changes a newborn brings. I would now like to welcome Mr Shane Hayes who will be taking over from Ashleigh in the role of Year 9 Coordinator. Shane has been involved in the Middle School Program for over 10 years as a Pastoral Care Tutor and brings a vast array of experience to the YLC Team. At this point in time Shane’s replacement as Pastoral Care Tutor has not been announced, so in the next Crest this information will become available. I wish Shane all the best as he begins his new role next week. Mr Andrew Agardy will also finish the term at the end of this week as he undertakes his Long Service Leave. Andrew will return at the start of Term Three.

The Middle School Examinations have all been concluded this week so our final focus for the term is in Week Ten with the entire Middle School changing classroom location to Melbourne.

In the final week of Term Two the Melbourne Experience is designed to promote important life skills, such as independence, initiative and responsibility, and provide a real world link to the Year 9 Curriculum.

The Melbourne Experience Objectives include:

  • Learn about different aspects of Melbourne

  • History, Culture, Arts, Sport, Design and Innovation

  • Learn how to use public transport

  • How to navigate around the Melbourne CBD

  • Develop teamwork and independence skills

  • Experience a range of activities across the CBD: Such as

    MCG/Sports Museum Tour, Shrine Tour, NGV Tour, Eureka Skydeck Tour, Melbourne Gaol Tour, Melbourne Museum Tour. Your son should now have a complete timetable for the week and all the necessary permission forms returned to his Pastoral Care Teacher.
