Old Boys in the News – June 2023

Our Old Collegians have been busy, including:
- Fantastic to see Old Collegian Liam Haintz (SPC 2011-16) has secured a new intern role with one of the most prestigious universities in the world. The Federation University sports science student will intern at Yale University, working as a strength and conditioning coach for the university’s American Football team, the Yale Bulldogs. - Great to see the hosting of the Nathan Shanahan Memorial Cup, in memory of the Old Collegian Nathan Shanahan (SPC 1988-93), recently in the Central Highlands FL to promote mental health in the wake of pandemic-interrupted seasons. Buninyong hosted Clunes in the memorial cup, which raises money and awareness for Ballarat-based charity Walking Off the War Within. - Great to hear Aiden Domic (SPC 2012-17) supports wellbeing and mental health awareness as well in this story here
- Fantastic to see Old Boys Simon Geljon (SPC 1987-92) and Ashley Madigan (SPC 1988-91, PY1993) banding together to channel the chill into helping others through their involvement in junior football with a winter warmer drive recently in this story here
- Great to see Michael Trigger (SPC 2006-11) has returned to Ballarat City FC senior men’s team as manager as the club aims to remain in NPL3 into next season. Michael, who led the team in 2022, departed at the end of last season to Preston, read more in this story here
- Great to see Gus Martin (SPC 2004-09) part of the trio of mates preparing to run from Federation Square in Melbourne to Ballarat later this year in a bid to raise awareness for mental health. Read more here or visit the guys’ fundraising page at gofundme.com
- Old Collegian Brian Mahony (SPC 1956) was in the news after voicing his opposition, alongside numerous neighbours, to a proposed childcare centre being built in the residential area of Delacombe, to read more, click here
- Old Collegian Nick Rousch (SPC 1954-55) shone the spotlight on a little known genetic blood condition, which affects five members of the Rousch family and is easily dismissed as tiredness and lethargic. But the condition, haemochromatosis, can cause irreparable damage to the body, read more in this story here
