VCE Theatre Studies Monologue Exam

Congratulations to the VCE Theatre Studies students (pictured below) who completed their monologue exam this week. In the exam, these acting/directing students performed a 5-minute monologue that was presented in front of a panel of three VCAA assessors. They then read their 2-minute interpretation statement justifying their choices and demonstrating their knowledge of their chosen play. This is a huge achievement that the students have been working on all semester. We had two performers interpret Atticus Finch, from To Kill a Mockingbird and two performers act as Man from Australian play Man Covets Bird. Ms Allen is very proud of their efforts and wishes these students all the best for their written exam next week.

Ted Turnbull-Gent: The Betty Amsden Youth Scholarship Award

During the first week of the school holidays, Year 10 student Ted Turnbull-Gent participated in an acting course run by Melbourne Theatre Company. The course is described as “a life-changing week of drama workshops” and an opportunity for young people to learn and develop drama skills, gain confidence, self-awareness and self-expression whilst building friendships and a lifelong affinity for theatre. Ted was one of only 25 students from across Victoria who was offered a place in the course which culminated in a final performance on Friday, 23 September. Ted tells us it was a wonderful experience that has only strengthened his love for performing.

Drama Club Excursion: Harry Potter an d The Cursed Child

On Wednesday, 19 October 20 members of drama club attended Harry Potter & The Cursed Child at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne. This highly professional and world class production was absolutely amazing, and we were lucky enough to experience a Q&A with the cast after the show. This was an invaluable experience for our young actors who are so energised after seeing the play. We welcome and encourage students to join drama club, we are always open to new members! Sessions run Mondays at lunch time in the Black Box Theatre.
