Return of BAS Sport – August 16, 2021
August 16, 2021
St Patrick’s College is excited to be involved in the return of competitive BAS Sport which is resuming this week after the latest COVID lockdown.
However, we are mindful that we ask all in our community to comply with the following stricter conditions which have been put in place to enable competition to resume in as safe a manner as possible.
College Head of Sport Ms Tina Benit said that, under the stricter conditions, there will be only two schools allowed to participate at any one venue at the same time.
“Events that bring multiple schools together to compete at one venue, indoors or outdoors are to be avoided,” Ms Benoit said.
“These activities scheduled for the remainder of Term 3 are canceled or postponed.”
Ms Benoit said the following sports would be most affected
- Table Tennis – “We will be running lunchtime table tennis and will try to find a week where boys from St Patrick’s College can play against one school.”
- Squash & Racquetball – “We will try to find a week that we can play against one school.”
- Lap of Lake / Cross Country – “Postponed.”
- BAS Athletics – “Cancelled.
Other sports, in which two schools compete in matches outdoors, will be allowed to recommence. These sports include Junior and Senior Soccer and Hockey.
While these sports can resume, Ms Benoit said there would be no spectators allowed at the venues.
“We are only allowed to have the minimum amount of people required to run a sport (only competitors, coaches and umpires). Parents please do not enter school grounds,” Ms Benoit said.
“All these arrangements are designed to protect our communities and, in particular, our senior students.
Ms Benoit said that if the restrictions were not adhered to, it would jeopardise the College’s ability to compete in any school sport for the remainder of the year.
