Rev Fr James Laurence Nihill (SPC 1953-58)

We were notified recently of the passing of Rev Fr James Laurence Nihill (SPC 1953-58). Fr Jim passed away several years ago, on 3 March 2015. He is survived by several cousins and relatives still living in and around the Runnymede/Elmore district.

Jim attended SPC in the 1950s and was a boarder from Elmore, following in the footsteps of his father Pat (SPC 1905-07). Jim was involved in the football and tennis programs and was a member of the Our Lady’s Sodality.

Fr Jim was ordained on 23 July 1966 and was the much-loved priest of the Diocese of Sandhurst, at Bendigo, in Victoria.

He was remembered very fondly amongst the parishioners of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish for his politeness and down-to-earth disposition.

Current Parish priest Rev Fr Ashley Caldow remembered Fr Jim as “a son of farming stock, (who) loved the land and its people of the OLSH Parish and he continues to be sorely missed”.
