Rowing Report – October 6, 2016
October 5, 2016
–
The rowing season has begun and despite the bad weather we are excited with the potential on offer- for another successful season. We have had an unprecedented number of Year 8 boys apply for the Junior Rowing Program. So many in fact we may have to limit the entries. We can cater for a maximum of nine crews and currently have 12.
We have a huge intermediate group with a large proportion of lads continuing on from the previous seasons success but also a number of new rowers looking to join the ranks.
And for the first time in five years we can boast six senior crews. What makes this possible is the wonderful support of past senior rowers who stay on as coaches helping to develop and encourage the new rowers with the St Pats Rowing club spirit.
We also welcome the Year 7 coxes who have volunteered their summer to begin their rowing experience, with an introduction to early morning session on cold days. We are looking forward to the warmer weather and when the early morning sessions won’t be so brutal.
We are also excited and are looking forward to the arrival of two new boats for the intermediate and junior crews to add to the fleet. Sadly, we will retire one of the oldest boats in our fleet and use it as an indoor training vessel.
We are also eager to build on the ergothon fundraising event as a start towards fundraising for a new racing vessel. – So please consider donating.
