Senior School – September 21

Congratulations to our Senior Leaders and Award winners, as acknowledged at the Leadership Transfer assembly on Tuesday.- The efforts and contributions that some of them have made are remarkable.- It is worth noting that often the boys who are involved in many areas of school life are also the ones who somehow find more than an average amount of time to devote to their studies.- We thank Sam Williams and the 2018 student Council, they have been rock solid. Congratulations to Aidan Hanrahan and his team, I am sure they will build admirably on the foundations that have been laid.

The end of term has been predictably busy.- Students from Years 10 to 12 often finish with a flurry of assessment tasks.- The Year 12 SATs that tend to be due in these last two weeks are the culmination of three terms of work.- They cannot be done in a couple of weeks.- The high quality of many of the submissions are evidence of the hours of dedication and commitment.- Well done on getting them finished and submitted.

VTAC timely applications close at 5pm on September 27, and the cost is $36.- This date falls in the holidays; we are encouraging students to complete applications before the holidays so that this date is not missed.- Course preferences can be changed after this date, (but be mindful that some courses require interviews / folios and might not let you change dates right up until December).- VTAC applications are completed online.- After September 27, the cost goes to $105. and then $137 if you miss the next cut-off.- All students going for an ATAR are encouraged to make an application for a Tertiary place, even if just as insurance against the plans they have for 2019/2020 falling through.

Hopefully the September holidays will provide some warmer weather, a little bit of sunshine, and a chance to refresh and renew our energies for Term Four.- While it is important to recharge, it is equally important to not have a complete break from study.- Our Year 12s (and Year 11s with a 3/4 Study) need to do plenty of work as when they return they only have 2.5 weeks of classes and exams start a week after that.- If trying to guide students at home, please be aware that it is best to do some work almost every day rather than attempt to do massive amounts all in a few days -“ more effective in what you retain per hour of study, and easier to accumulate more hours spent studying.- Getting good food and sleep are also important.- We look forward to seeing all students back safe and ready for Term Four.- Unit 3/4 students are required to sit practice exams in the second week of the holidays, the timetable is below.- They are encourage to do some preparation for each one, but bearing in mind they will then do a few more weeks of revision.

Please Note:

• All practice exams take place in the Pavilion.
• Tuesday’s times are not the same as Wednesday or Thursday.
• Write your exams into the appropriate places in the table below, noting that the various English subjects are the only ones with a prescribed timeslot, i.e. make your own timetable.
• If you are unable to get an exam done in these available timeslots, make arrangements with your teacher/s to get exams done and to your teacher before October 4 so that they have a reasonable chance of being marked by your return to school.
• Where a subject has two exams eg. Further Mathematics, students are required to sit both Exam 1 and Exam 2.
• Year 11s doing a Year 12 subject are required to attend to sit the exam/s for that subject
• Casual clothes may be worn for the practice exams

It should also be noted that the Kelty Resource Centre will be open each day in the term break for private study.- Opening hours are as follows.
