2019 Booklists and iPad Resources Lists

Distribution of the 2019 booklists will commence next week when current Year 11 boys, along with selected Year 10 students studying a VCE Units 3/4 subject or a second-year VET certificate in 2019, will receive a print copy of the 2019 Year 12 booklist as part of the Headstart program.

A number of current Year 11 boys previously pre-ordered their 2019 VCE Units 3/4 English and/or Literature novels. These will be available for collection from the ERC from Monday, November 19.

A print copy of the booklist will be distributed to current Year 7-10 boys via their Pastoral Care groups next week.- Current Years 7 and 8 boys will also receive the 2019 iPad Resources List specific to their year level.

Incoming 2019 Year 7 families, along with all other families new to St Patrick’s in 2019, will be mailed a print copy of the relevant 2019 booklist and the 2019 iPad Resources List (as required) as soon as possible.

Pathway to Hospitality program in 2019

St Patrick’s has been working with old-collegian and local hospitality consultant, employment advisor and trainer, Mr LeRoy Hand, to develop a course of study that will provide interested Years 11 and 12 students with the necessary foundation level skills and knowledge to transition to employment in the hospitality industry.

Recent hospitality industry reviews note a high level of skills shortage. Ballarat’s hospitality industry currently has an ever-increasing gap in -job ready- school leavers. This has created increased opportunities for willing employees to find and retain meaningful work in an exciting career.

After consultation with hospitality industry, the following lists attributes most sought-after by hospitality employers when employing school leavers:

  • Personal hygiene and grooming

  • Strong work ethic

  • Work availability

  • Food knowledge (basics)

  • Food safety (hygiene and safe work practices).

The most sought-after practical skills included:

  • Basic knife skills and safety

  • Use basic equipment

  • Clean kitchen premises

  • Dishwashing

  • Use basic methods of cookery to produce simple dishes

  • Ability to follow a recipe.

Understanding the identified employment opportunities in the hospitality industry and having on-site access to industry-level equipment and facilities in the Whelan Food Centre, the College will be offering a Pathway to Hospitality program in 2019.

The Pathway to Hospitality program will take the form of a short-course which will see students completing training for two hours per week for 16 weeks. The program will be offered twice throughout the year -“ once in Semester One and repeated a second time in Semester Two. The program will run on a Thursday afternoon from 1:25pm to 3:25pm. Mr Hand will be the primary program trainer and he will be supported by a member of the College’s Food Technology teaching staff.

Further details regarding this program and the application process will be emailed to all 2019 Year 11 students and parents in the coming days.

Use of Parent Access Module (PAM) to access end Semester Two reports

St Patrick’s uses the Parent Access Module (PAM) to provide parents and guardians online access to a range of information specific to their son(s). The Student Assessment area allows you to view and download your son’s mid-semester and end of semester reports for both the current and previous years.

End of Semester Statement of Attainment, Pastoral Care, Instrumental Music and Boarding reports will accessible via PAM from 4:00pm on Friday, December 14.

A PAM Parent User Guide has been written to assist you with the log-in process and to explain the key features of PAM. It can be accessed by clicking on the link on the College’s homepage (https://www.stpats.vic.edu.au/).

The PAM username and password previously issued to parents can be used again for the end Semester Two reports.
