Where are they now – John Deany (SPC 1949-53)

The College recently reconnected with John Deany (SPC 1949-53) who had a fabulous time at our recent SPC 125 Anniversary Dinner at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in October. John recalls some of his fondest memories and teachers who helped him along the way.

Where has life taken you since leaving SPC?

Since leaving St Patrick’s College in 1953, I became a primary teacher (coached the State netball team for three years and managed it for three more years). I loved teaching. I married Pam, my wife, and we had seven children (including twin girls). One son, Matthew, died six years ago.

What are your fondest memories of your time at St Patrick’s College?

• The companionship

• The dedication of the Brothers

• Sports teams

• Meeting my great mate John James

  Which teacher from your time at SPC had the greatest impact on you? Why?

  Meeting my teachers -“ Br Kelty (great teacher), Br O’Malley (footy legend), Br Mogg, Br Healy and Br Coyne. I would never have won Honours in Matric without the Brothers’ support. I was taught values, especially Religions.

  If you could pass on one message to the students of today, what would it be?

  Don’t take your years at SPC for granted -“ much has been done for you.
