Where are they now – Steven Crowe (SPC 1994-99)

The College reconnects with Steven Crowe (SPC 1994-99) whose successful accounting career got kickstarted with the help of one of his SPC teachers.

 

Where has life taken you since leaving SPC?

Since finishing at SPC, I studied at Ballarat University and worked as accountant with my father Bryan at Kearney and Crowe. When the practice was sold in 2011, I moved on and recently, in April 2017, started my own accounting practise. I’m also married to Susan and have two children, Chelsea, aged 5, and Levi, 3.

 

What are your favourite memories of your time at St Patrick’s College?

My favourite memories of St Patrick’s was probably the Year 12 year in 1999. It was a fun year, most people had matured by then and there were plenty of social events going on. I remember the night before Speech Night, nearly all of the year cramming into the tiny Blarney Inn for some war cries and other songs. The school footy team winning the Herald Sun Shield for the first time was a good night too.

 

Which teacher from your time at SPC had the greatest impact on you? Why?

Geoff Brodie probably had an impact on me being that he gave me a nickname that still gets used today. Studying accounting under Andrew Watson gave me a great kickstart on my way to becoming an accountant, and it made the transition into university a lot easier.

 

How has your education shaped your professional life?

The school had a winning culture and was always trying to aim high. It helped me to set a high standard in life and that you should always aim to be your best.

 

If you could pass on one message to the students of today, what would it be?

Do your best in Year 12 as it can give you an easier pathway to your preferred career but remember if things don’t go as planned there are other pathways available.
